Silver is a ductile, highly conductive precious metal used in jewelry and coinage and widely as an industrial input—particularly in electronics, photovoltaics, electrical contacts and medical applications. Its market importance reflects this dual role as a commodity and investment asset, with prices driven by industrial demand cycles, mine production and recycling, investor flows and above‑ground stocks, and macro factors such as the US dollar and real interest rates; its relatively small market size also contributes to higher volatility.
